eradication--dreams-of-realityTo put it simply, Eradication is a band that is going to blow you away in 2011. From the opening moments of debut album Dreams of Reality, you know you are listening to something special, a blend of Death, Thrash and Black Metal so accomplished that it sounds like the work of a band releasing a third or fourth album rather than their first. After a melodic intro, Fascination In Torture kicks in with ferocious intent, a fast and full-tilt song punctuated by fluid guitar solos. The intense pace rarely slows but the ten tracks never become repetitive, displaying great maturity in their use of melody, time-changes and vocal delivery. Never Breathe Life has a pleasingly commercial edge to its twisting dual guitars, while Interlude keeps things fresh with haunting keyboards and a spine of restrained drums.

The band has been described as Metalcore and use the term Death-Thrash on their Myspace page. These influences can be clearly heard - the music itself is reminiscent of Trivium in the clean guitars of James Murray and Vinnie Woollven, a modern take on the legacy of Metallica; and in the growling voice of powerful lead singer Aston Reynolds. Where they differ is that there are no soaring choruses being sung here - the vocal emphasis is strictly on Black Metal, a guttural mix of deep growls and higher-pitched screams in the style of Cradle of Filth and Cthonic and more unusually for this genre, the occasional nod to Rob Halford.

As with a great deal of Death and Black Metal, some of the lyrics can be hard to discern, though the songs are of such great quality and the production so polished that this doesn't take away from the listening experience. Enough can be gleaned to know that the band is staying close to the themes of sexual deviance and rising against oppression that you would anticipate. Provided with a physical copy of the CD and access to the lyrics, it's certain that they would not disappoint.

Coming from Essex in the United Kingdom, this amazing five-piece has already reached such excellence with their debut that it's mouth-watering to imagine what the future could hold for them. Bridging several genres and succeeding at them all, Eradication will appeal to lovers of modern Black and Thrash Metal both. They are currently touring the UK - catch them if you can and see them before they set the world on fire.
