I don't think there are many Norwegians that know much about Human Improvement Process, can you please tell us the story behind the band? We are 5 friends from Modena (Italy) that played for years sometimes in different bands or sometimes together (Lorenzo and Fabio has been playing together for 7 years and Marcello and Luca started playing metal in the same band in 2005) but each one of us had his different musical projects through the years. Only recently we decided to create a new band together: Human Improvement Process, mixing our passion for extreme metal and metalcore/deathcore with new sonorities like electronic stuff, dubstep. S.T.A.R.S. got published in February and been out about a month now. What response have you got so far? We received lots of good reviews, also from sites, webzines and magazines that do not often deal with our particular genre. It has been extremely satisfying for us. Many peoples hang up on what style bands are playing. What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences? We're undoubtedly influenced by great metal bands like Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Death but we do not deny our great passion for new bands coming from the deathcore/metalcore scene. Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs? Do you think these topics will change over time? The songs included in S.T.A.R.S. have been written by Fabio (guitar) and Marcello (bass) in complete cooperation. For what concerns the new material Marcello is mainly doing the composition job working with Lorenzo (guitar). Well, the main themes in our Ep are for sure personal thoughts and reflections, anger and a sort of science/cosmic fiction. Maybe these topics will change over time as the songs too, who knows? :) Could you briefly describe the music-making process? Usually Marcello and Lorenzo write down riffs at home on their own, then if an entire song comes out they send to the rest of us tabs or homemade recordings; we learn the song at home, sometimes inserting our own ideas, so in the rehearsal room we can practice with the new stuff we exchanged and compare our views.
We decided to work with the TEK guys because they were interested in our music, liked our product and wanted to do a sort of mutual aid in promoting us ('cause we're both almost new entities in the music scene). What has been your biggest challenge as a band? Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how? Maybe our biggest challenge has been to find and form a solid lineup. At the moment we're completely satisfied with our band (for what concerns members and the personality of each one) we're almost like a family. What are your favorite and least favorite venues? Will we ever see you live here in Norway? Any tour plans? We sincerely do not know how the music scene in your country is after black metal in the 90s, the only "new" Norwegian band we know is purified in blood; we've seen them with Born Of Osiris some weeks ago and they were pretty cool. We're now planning tours in different countries, but we think we'll not be hitting Norway for some time.
What's your ultimate direction for the band? Definitely to bring our music all over the world Concerts are really important for bands these days. Do you guys have any favorite song(s) you like to perform? If so, why? That’s' a nice question. Well, yes, we have some favorite songs we like to perform but they're not from S.T.A.R.S. EP; at the moment we love to play our new songs, the ones that will be featured on our first full length. Any last words? Thank you for the opportunity of the interview and do not forget to check out our video on BlankTV:
Silent Savagery wish you the best with the new EP, and look forward to more energic metal from you guys. |
